Problem not releasing MCAT score?

I am retaking the MCAT tomorrow, and due to time spent with work, research, and a general blase attitude about a retake, I doubt if I will improve my score from last August (10V 9PS 9BS P). If I choose not to release my scores if they are lousy, can that be a problem? My AACOMAS app states that I planned to take it. I just had no oomph! this time. Thanks!

why are you retaking it? I think those scores are great!!

I applied very late in the cycle last year, got waitlisted, and wanted to make sure that I was doing everything possible to improve my chances this year (Also, I applied 8 months earlier this time) I work nights, couldn't switch my sleeping schedule around last year, and consequently, by the end of the MCAT, I was up for 27 hours. It was a nightmare, and I don't think that I did my absolute best. Now this time, I am just burned out. Oh well!

Sounds like me. I am just burned out form the MCAT. This is my second time and I just couldn't put my heart into it. The first I feel I would have done really well (for me that is) if I just got more then 2 hours of sleep the might before! Now I have been so busy and just haven't studied as much as I would have liked for this time. Oh well I have to give it my best and last week my confidence went up because I got a 31 (10,11, 10) on a practice exam! Good luck to everyone!

I dont know why you are retaking it either? Those scores seem fine to me. Oh well, best of luck, hope you get what you were aiming for this time!

i dont know...i'm not releasing them either unless they are what i want! it would be nice to know.

I realize those are decent scores, and if I had gotten them after a full nights sleep (heck, any sleep) I would have been happy with them.

Let me shed more light:

I have a cumulative undergrad gpa of 3.09, and a postbac of 3.56 working towards a chemistry degree. I have an...interesting academic record due to some resolved personal problems (violins please!), and felt that I must make up for the low cumulative with a stellar MCAT to improve my chances.

This is my second and last year applying to med school, and I am very concerned that I may not realize that dream.

So, do schools take only the good scores into consideration, or will they use the unreleased scores as a "black mark" against me?

It wouldn't be the end of the world, but like you said - it would be something negative for adcomms to look into. If I were you, I would not retake it tomorrow and reapply early this year. You should be improving your application's personal statement, experiences and early submission. Your MCAT score is above average and your GPA isn't bad. Just my 0.02

Thanks for your comments. I applied to 14 schools June 1st, and used last years MCAT, and marked "planned" for '07.
