I just received my acceptance to PCOM today and I already got accepted to LECOM. My significant other(lives in philadelphia) was put on the alternate list at LECOM. I would go to LECOM if my significant other is accepted there. I would go to PCOM if he wasn't. But if i choose to go to PCOM now, and he finds out later that he is accepted at LECOM, I'm screwed. He's in florida and I'm in PA. I would hate to put a 2 deposit downs at PCOM($2500) and LECOM and spend soo much money and then find out later that he isn't accepted. I woulda wasted my deposit money at LECOM. IS there anything I can say to LECOM in regards to his situation or anything he could say..what would you all do..

I want to go to lecom and would be awesome if he gets accepted there. but right now we have no idea how long it will take when and if he gets off the alternate list. I heard they take ppl off the day of orientation. Now if that happens where would I be? He prefers to stay in philadelphia if he doesn't get into lecom. he doesn't want to move to fl.

Be safe and put down the 2 deposits. You are going to make alot more money later---is it really worth the risk?

Think about how much in loans you are going to take out for medical school----that amount doesn't even total some of the interest you will be paying for a year or 2 of those loans.

I can understand your plight. I am a non-trad,will be 41 when i apply in 2 years, married, with 2 children. I am doing evrything i can to become the best applicant i can be, so I can have many options. My first choice is MSUCOM, mainly due to proximity to my home. But the bottom line is, that I will go where I need to go to become a doctor, and more specifically, a D.O. You need to do what will be best for YOU. Ask yourself, how bad do you want to become a doctor? Hopefully everything will work out for you and your SO.

Putting that much money down SUCKS, but not putting it down and missing out on a great opportunity would suck more! In the end, when you are a practicing physician, the money will seem so inconsequential. I do understand how you feel right now, however. Good luck!

On one hand, I agree with the previous posters: put down the two deposits, just to be on the safe side. On the other hand, there's no reason you can't talk to LECOM and PCOM about your situation (especially LECOM, since you both applied there). My understanding is that personal situations are taken into consideration.

I agree. Telling LECOM about your situation may even help your significant other's chances!

Definitely tell your bf to call LECOM and tell them about the situation. I have heard of med schools taking things like that into account, as no one wants to split up a happy couple! If he shows a lot of interest in going to LECOM and tells them that he would definitely attend if he was accepted (maybe write a letter of intent), that would be helpful. As far as $$$ goes, try to put off paying any extra deposits for as long as possible, but you may have to eventually suck it up and throw down the cash.

Hey sorry for any confusion in regards to some of the replies. it's not like if i stay in philly i won't have anywhere to go. again i got accepted to pcom. i got confused when people said do what you want and do what you can to become a DO. either way i'll become a DO. it's not about that.

IN addition, my SO wrote a letter of intent and so did I... should I call and how should i say my update with PCOM.. saying it in a wrong way may come of wrong....

do i say i would like to go to lecom if my SO got in but i also got an acceptance at PCOM...i don't want to spend too much money so then what.. what do i ask them to do??

SO FAR< lecom only knows that my so is on the alternate list.. they do not know that i am thinking of PCOM if he doesn't get it.. should i tell them that?

Yes.

Be realistic about the waitlist. Most people do not get off it and schools tend to string you along until the last minute telling you that you could get off it. Just being realistic.
