Problems at Indy?

At the end of interview season, the program that is popping up at the top is Indiana. Aside from the location (which is not really negotiable), I just can't really think of any negatives to this program. Can anybody come up with any disadvantages to training there? Anybody note any kind of red flags at all? As far as I can tell, they've pretty much got it all.

I ranked them 4th on my list with location being the chief negative. In retrospect, I think the amount of time spent on the helicopter is a negative in my mind. Although fun, and certainly "sexy," I have a hard time believing its high yield. If you fit in with the residents, can live with the location, and like the rest of the program, I wouldn't let that keep you from ranking them number one.

There are certainly some good programs out there, but I don't think that you'll find any better than Indy. The training is excellent, residents are happy and despite the lack of geographic diversity, the city is a great place to live.

geography isn't the only thing lacking diversity... count me in as a caucasian who actually likes and appreciates diversity in residents/faculty.

While I did NOT do my residency at IU, Indianapolis is a fantastic city (yep I am from there and I have lived in 3 other similar sized cities). Tons of festivals, very easy highway system and some of the best places to eat and shop in the midwest (of course Chicago wins hands down).

From a Soon-to-be-attending standpoint, Indy and Indiana is great to work in as malpractice is relatively low, HMO penetration is relatively low, tort reform is a non issue comparitively speaking compared to surrounding states. They are actually BUILDING hospitals rather than closing them.

As for natural resources...well aint no mountains and no rivers near by.
And yep, it snows and gets cold.
