I am planning on applying this cycle, and just contacted my physics professor about a letter of recommendation. When I told him I planned on using Interfolio, he warned me he and several students have been having trouble with them and I should be careful.

I already signed up for Interfolio. Did I waste my money? Should I also request paper letters just in case? It seems like it will make the application process much more difficult if I need to have my letter writers send letters to multiple schools. I haven't even chosen them all yet.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Interfolio worked awesome for me, I didn't have any trouble with it whatsoever. I've had letters submitted to them both electronically and through the mail and they were always very quick (electronic was available to send within minutes of being uploaded by the professor and they scanned in any mailed letters within just a few days of receiving it). Maybe you should ask that prof what specifically he is referring to.

Yep, no problems with interfolio here either. I agree that you should ask him for specifics on these problems. The only issues I ever had with letters of rec were on the school's end because sometimes they would take a long time to upload the letters. But I think that's just because they are busy, and not because I used Interfolio.

That's good to hear. Makes me feel much better. I'll ask him more specifics, but I'd still love to hear others experiences.

I've used interfolio starting during undergrad, so its been about....5-6 years...I've never had any problems and i've had MANY friends that use it. BUTTTTTTTTT the issue your professor is talking about is most likely outdated. My old roommate who is currently a med student at UCSF had some issues with some schools, UCSF and UCSD off the top of my head, not accepting interfolio. Since then (3 years ago) AMCAS has switched to their own letter service, which solves that problem.

ANYWAY....This is what you should do and what I did. Sign up for interfolio AND your school's letter service. The only extra work your professor has to do is print out two copies of the letter of req, which he'll send to both places....that way you have your interfolio version(which is prob cheaper in 99% of the cases to send) and your school letter service copy (bit more expensive but all places will 100% accept it).

I never had any problems with interfolio, but I do know if you have any problems, there is someone on here from the company that will help you...Iv seen his postings in the past, just do a search for interfolio.
