Lots of IM programs are moving away from procedures and I was hoping to get a list of areas where you still get exposed heavily during residency. Are there still academic programs where you get this exposure, or is it mostly rural/community programs with fewer resources and ancillary staff? I know this isn't a healthy way to think about it but I don't want to "waste" a strong app (AOA, top quintile, 99th percentile Step).

Thanks!

The more residencies/ fellowships the less you’ll do. Simple mechanics and numbers. If the only residency is the IM program you’ll have no competition. Though, keep an eye out for hospitals having “residencies” or “fellowships” for mid levels, as it’s likely you’ll take a back seat to them as sell-out academic attendings train our replacements.

Good luck bud.

Do you know of any places off the top of your head that do stuff like this?
