Hey guys, I know this question's been asked a lot, and there is a lot of grey area regarding it but I was just wondering if this would be helpful to include in my application:

In my freshman year I played Halo 3 professionally. I ranked 9th FFA at MLG Dallas out of thousands. I got sponsored by Stride for a bit and got a lot of free stuff from them. As such, I believe my hand/eye coordination is pretty darn good. I no longer play any video games but I still feel playing video games has strengthened my manual dexterity.

However, will this look childish on my application? I mean I never planned on pursuing professional gaming it was just a hobby that I was particularly good at. I personally think it's a toss up because some people might look as this as favorable, and others might just think I'm a gamer.

My other manual dexterity skills aren't too strong, I work on my car a bit but haven't done any major work. I used to play the drums but only up until college. What would you guys suggest?

I actually find that pretty fascinating. I don't think you need to detail what specific game(s), but your talent is certainly applicable. Drumming too.

I say go for it.

Thanks for the reply! It was definitely enjoyable, but seeing people that made video games their whole life was very dissatisfying. Many didn't go to college or even finish high school, and I value education a lot so it just didn't align with my values. Who would've known it would someday help me? lol

Last year the director of admissions for UOP visited our school and someone asked about professional gaming. He said put it down, because it is something out of the ordinary and interesting.

You have a unique experience in that you are actually good at gaming. Include this in your app if you want. It def makes you stand out. Just reiterate that this was a hobby and not a career. Dentistry is the focus now and your exp with gaming has given you a leg up in motor skills and hand eye coordination.

Absolutely put it down. I suggest adding in which playlists you have a 50 in to peak their interest.

Those were the days man, but honestly halo 2 was the best imo

I put that I played video games professionally on my application. I didn't have any problems getting interviews, but one of my interviews was very awkward when I was asked about it. At Penn, the lady interviewing me asked what kind of video games I played. I said First-Person shooters, and she gave me a glare and followed with an ignorant question. It went something like, "You're not going to shoot up the school, are you?" I was baffled to say the least.

What?! That is so ignorant! That's exactly what I was afraid of to be honest lol. But I guess I'll just put it on the app anyways.

Feel trip?! Relive that. I played through that s.o.b. last week. Good stuff.

I have the Master Chief Edition for Xbox and play once a month if that... It's just so nostalgic lol. Crazy how a video game can give you the feels.

Lol this post inspired me to restart the campaign. The part where you go to find cortana is my least favorite part.

Halo 1 has to give me the most feels. Played that game to death back in '01.
