Is it bad that my professor spelled my last name wrong in my letter of rec? Is it worth asking her to fix it and resend it in to interfolio? I mean she didn't spell my name that bad... she spelled it Moore instead of More

Not worth fixing, esp. if you weren't technically supposed to see the letter. One of my LORs had the wrong year listed for when I was volunteering. No one commented or seemed to notice. People make mistakes, and ADCOMs tend understand that.

OT: why use interfolio, instead of having the writers upload it directly to amcas in May?

Personally, I don't think the misspelling is that big of a deal. It's not ideal, obviously, but whether you ask them to redo it or not depends on how comfortable you doing so, and how difficult you think it might have been for them to upload it in the first place (are extremely busy? 80 years-old and very tech-unsavvy?). I'm sure if you informed them of their mistake, they'd probably be more than happy to redo it, regardless, but I can't imagine you being penalized if any way for a another person's typo or lack of experience spelling your surname.

I've seen much worse... gender changes mid-letter (e.g.her in place of him) and names that are completely wrong -- like Ashley in place of Trevor. I think it is often a case of cut/paste editing and if reflects badly on the writer, not the applicant.

Moore, More is not a big deal, particularly in that the pronunciation is so similar (at least in some dialects).

Oh boy, I hope this doesn't happen to any of my letters. I don't see how that would not negatively affect one's application.

To the OP: were you not recommended to waive your viewing rights of your LORs?

I had my volunteer supervisor spell my name completely wrong (like, changed ll to e, and left out a few letters), and I was informed about it because when I sent my letters off the first time, one of the people at Interfolio let me know. I had him fix it and reupload the letter. It made me really hesitant about using that letter again.

If you think people don't view their LORs after waiving their rights, you're mistaken. I actually wrote one of mine...

No, I never got to read my letter. I waived my right to read the letter as is recommended. I found out because interfolio does a quality check. and one of them emailed me letting me know what my professor did. They were really nice and told me that i should tell the prof and they can upload a new letter to the replace the old one.

i knew a girl who got a letter that was written for somebody else

I had a similar issue with a doctor that wrote me a letter. He used zack instead of zach. I didn't ask him to change it and it wasn't a big deal.

I'd just forward that e-mail to your professor and ask nicely. I don't think it's a big deal, but if you can change it easily enough, why not?

No big deal. Chances are they won't even notice.

AFAIK waiving your right to view the letters does not mean that you cannot view a letter if a prof offers to show it to you. it only means that you cannot demand that your profs, pre-med committee, or future med school show you the letters on file.
