professors vs premeds

You do have a point about bio since I think the majority of bio people are pre-health to some extent or another. You can say that you don't know yet and want to keep your options open. I did engineering so when I said that, nobody really cared further. Chemistry, physics, and humanities may get better mileage on this too.
I think a lot of people just care too much what other people think. If someone asked me what I wanted to do, I just told them. These smoke and shadow games that a lot of people are describing here are ridiculous.

Well I don't know what the pre-meds were like at your undergrad, but some of us don't want to be lumped into the same group as all of these arrogant douchebags. I don't play games, I simply choose to keep my mouth shut.

This. You should see the pre-meds at my school. F*cking ridiculous. I've heard of people leaving their desk at the library for a quick break and having their notes stolen days before a huge test.

I've made it habit to avoid anyone in the pre-med fraternity, especially since they actually joined it in the first place.

I just tell them I'm hoping to do public service 👍

sick stuff:laugh:

If asked at the beginning of class, I just say I am looking to get my PhD.

Off-topic: One time a pre-med in one of my classes told me that PhD stood for Pretty Hairy D***. LOL

I prefer the Pretty Huge D version.

👍 Nothing wrong with being yourself and telling people what you want to do. But I can see why people don't want to be unfairly judged, and in some cases receive worse treatment, if they can help it.

Many of them at my school were actually kind of dumb, because they hadn't thought through this in the slightest. "Damn, I should be a DOCTOR like that one TV show. Guess I should be pre-med!!"

Yeah, nobody cared anywhere near that much at my school. I actually studied with my stiffest "competition" most of the time. My friends and I were usually in the high scores for exams (and they're all residents/pharmacists/dentists now).

Someone say 'gunner'?

Hey, are you sure this B isn't supposed to be an A? I know I worked just hard enough to be entitled to an A, and I will e-mail you throughout the summer until you finally cave into my ridiculous demands.

I kind of think of gunner pre-meds as little vampires that latch onto professors and suck out their will to teach.

Those of you that are worried about "outing" yourselves as pre-meds are idiots. If you're a genuinely nice and humble person, people will get that vibe from you and won't lump you in with the "typical" pre-meds that are being described. Whoever made the analogy about this sounding like a discussion on sexuality is dead on.

Don't major in "premed" then (unless that's seriously a major?). Just tell her your actual major or say you're undecided.

That reminds me of a dietetics class I had once, the professor just wanted to find out what everyones major was so we went around saying our majors (I just said bio of course) One girl was like "my major is pre-med" the professor was like "no seriously what is your major, we do not have a pre-med major at this institution" the funny thing is we have a prehealth major but it's technically biology with a few tweaks for the pre reqs

LOL this thread almost sounds like it should be about sexuality.

I'm not gonna be like those flaming pre-meds. I'm just gonna keep it to myself honestly it's nobody's business anyways.
I sure hope that the other pre-med student I study with doesn't out me! Iff he does I'm gonna be pissed.😡
I have to delete my web browser history so nobody see's the different med school websites I watch.
I crap I think I left my MSAR on my bed while I was reading through it while my roommate was sleep! I hope he doesn't see it. :scared:
My prof seems like he might be a pre-med basher but I need an LOR for a summer medical program!😱 What do I do? Wait:idea: I'm gonna give him a vague answer like grad school.

You guys just come out o your pre-med closets I swear it gets better!

 HAHAHA

👍👍👍 Great examples!

That seems like one of those jokes meant to be funny only to the folks in the class who weren't seeking a higher education.

Nope, never had a problem as a pre-med. Neither did my pre-med friends in college. This whole pre-med hate thing seems to be quite frequently discussed on sdn, but it's a new phenomenon for me.

Then again, I was a Psych major and had very little interaction with the core bio/chem people so I was probably pretty clueless.

Oh hell no. I also have been known to say some not so nice things at people who acted shady in my classes, but I certainly don't recommend it.

I went to grad school and I LOLd.

Good thing to note. I'll just say Human 'Biology,' but I think that's pretty obvious

A+ post

I know there are tons of closet pre-meds at my school, but what's funny is they're so in the closet they don't know obvious crap like application start dates, MCAT testing dates. Some of them don't have a chance in hell.
