I matched last year into a program but have not actually heard from the program. No congrats, welcome to the program, etc. I matched last match for an advanced position. I also have not received a contract or any information about license processing, etc. Is this weird? Should I contact the program and inquire about this? Or should I wait until match time and if I don't hear from them contact the program at that time?

Yeah that's odd, esp in a field like rad onc where there are so few residents. You would expect a phone call but at the very least a generic email. That said, it prolly doesn't matter.

As long as you haven't been a pest up till now, I think it's okay to contact your coordinator and politely check if there's any paperwork you need to take care of before you start, etc.

It's kind of the opposite at a lot of programs. There are so few residents that things tend not to be super well organized.

While our program does have fine organization, they didn't send our incomings anything until late February. It doesn't hurt to contact the coordinator though.

So you think it's ok that they did not send me anything yet? I just don't know if they are waiting for this match since we are not starting until July or something. I guess I'll wait a little bit and if I don't hear anything by this match I'll get in touch with them. I'm going to be traveling likely out of the country before starting and want to make I don't have to do any paperwork they need mostly.

If you are going to be out of touch for a period before starting, that is a very good reason for getting in touch with the Program Coordinator to let them know this, and to ask what will be their likely timetable for you to get all your documentation in order for your July 2013start. As to when to get in touch, you need to find their quiet period, which may be the period between the program finalising its ranking lists and match day.

At my institution, the appointment process changes a little every year, so I'm not surprised that your program hasn't sent any paperwork yet, although a phone call at some point would have been nice. My guess is that you'll get the packet and instructions soon. The timing of your travels is likely to be important to your PC, though, especially if you are going to a place where communications will be difficult. Residency appointments involve a lot of specific deadlines, any of which could affect your ability to start on time and/or get paid. Letting the PC know your plans will preclude unexpected problems and delays.
