I've heard multiple times on this board and from faculties that most Oto programs are good. With September 1st approaching, I'm trying to figure out some programs that fits me... and maybe help other well also. It would be nice to get some impression of programs from residents and medical students regarding factors such as:

1) Length of dedicated research time? is it encouraged/supported? On-going research?

2) Relationship with faculties? Laid back? Formal? antagonistic? supportive?

3) Teaching - attitude towards teaching, dedicated conference/lecture time, funding/support/time off for national conferences?

4) Fellowships - residents and department's attitude towards fellowships? success in obtaining fellowships?

5) Average Hours - How are the hours 2nd year? 3rd? 5th? Is there a lot of trauma? Calls?

6) Misc - Location? night life? weather.. etc?

It'd be nice to make some informed decision, to save the program and applicant's time and money. Perhaps the mods can make/support an anonymous account for more honest feedback. Thanks in advance!

Most of the information you requested can be found on otomatch.com. Just go into the past few years and search for a school you are interested in.

Talk to the interns and junior residents in the department at your medical school about this- they will be your best resource. Otomatch is a bit outdated and spotty. When I was applying, myself and the other applicants in my class organized a bar night with several of the junior residents in our program to talk about this stuff. It helped a lot.
