Hi all,
I couldn't find anything after doing a search, so I apologize if this has been asked 10932894 times before. My fiance and I are couples matching next year and we're starting to think about all the programs we want to apply to. He'll be applying to anesthesiology and his advisors haven't been especially helpful so far.

I was just wondering if anyone has a list of anesthesia programs broken into tiers just to give us an idea of which ones will be reaches, within-reach, and "safeties" (as if there were really a thing in residencies...). Any program reviews you have would also be really appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance.

unfortunately there aren't any great resources that are up to date. programs keep changing status as they change the higher ups. the best resources are upper classmen that went through the match.

the tiers are all relative to the individual. if you are 260, AOA, honors across the board and ranked top of your class, then there isn't anything that is upper tier...while everything is a safety....

you can PM me for more info.

Hmm, I see what you're saying. So how do you know what programs have great reputations in the anesthesiology community vs. not-so-strong reps? And how do you decide where to apply? We're just starting to try to figure out all this out.

Thanks for your help 🙂

As DO4life said, you will be hard pressed to find alot of up-to-date reviews about alot of programs. My best advice to you is the use the search function on the forum, look at the interview feedback section of SDN (those are VERY up-to-date as the feature is only about 1 year old). You should first decide which area of the country you wish to apply and go from there.

I hope this helps! Good luck with the application process. Im GLAD its over for me 😀

i had a similar thought process when applying. however, the way the process goes, you can't really be too picky. programs have to choose you just as you chose them both for interview and ranking. When it comes to rep, i found that its based on out of date information. these places with "rep" aren't great places to work because they are living in the past and overwork their residents for peanuts. You want to find a balance of a prestigious institution that shows some love.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I guess we'll just talk with people and go from there. Congrats to you both on matching!
