Does anyone know if there is any match data published that is specific to different ortho programs? I'm not in my 4th year of med school yet, but how do 4th year's evaluate programs in order to apply to ones they think they have a shot at?

Almost everyone talks to the Program Director/Chairman of that specialty at their school. By sitting down with the PD/chair, going over your Step 1 score, your MS3 grades, your shelf exam scores, and your CV, the PD/chair can (based on their knowledge of other programs) tell you what programs you are likely to be competitive for. They may also be able to tell you what resources are out there (if any) that list average Step 1 scores for certain programs, etc.

Thanks for the response. Do you think there may be any unofficial ways of getting this information? I assume if, as you say, there may be resources out there which list average Step 1 scores for residents in certain programs that they would make their way onto a forum like this at some point. I've looked at the "charting outcomes in the match" thing just to see what kinds of grades/boards/activites/research people generally got to go into a specialty at the national level, but I'm more interested in finding out specifics (i.e. whats the average Step 1 score for ortho residents at Mayo clinic?, etc.)
