Is there anyway to determine average USMLE scores of admitted students at IM residency programs? I am trying to determine backup places to apply to based on my particular score, but I'm not totally sure on where I'd be sure to get in. Mostly applying to university programs.

To confirm, there is no extra cost of applying to more programs?

There *is* extra cost applying to more programs. The more you add the higher the price tag on ERAS.

You have to apply to a lot of programs before the fees really become significant. The actual structure is as follows:

Up to 10 $60
11-20 $8 each
21-30 $15 each
31 or more $25 each

You'll spend more on one cross country interview than you will on applying to 30 schools, so it's really not an issue until you start talking about like 50 programs.
