I am an incoming fourth year DO student who is set on applying psychiatry. I would love to do a sub-I or audition rotation at a program I can strongly consider myself at to gain connections. I was wondering if anyone have recommendations on some programs they liked around here that weren't so malignant (and by not malignant i don't mean it won't be a lot of work, I know to be a good psychiatrist you gotta work hard). I mean more so programs that seemed like the residents were happy.

Thanks for the input!

Not from personal experience, but programs in the area that I’ve heard great things about are Zucker Hillside and Montefiore.

I trained at Montefiore. Can't speak for today, but 11 years ago when I was there, it wasn't malignant--although they lost a lot of their most influential faculty, which also makes it harder to speak for today. The program director at Montefiore is very nice, though, which must mean something!

I am of course biased, but Rutgers NJMS, where I am faculty, is also not malignant. We love our residents and many stay in touch or come back to work as faculty after graduation, which I think also says something.
