hey- just wondering if anyone knows or has experience with some of the programs out west particularly those in Colorado?

Thanks!! 😀

I interviewed last year at U Col and was favorably impressed. It was in my top 3 but I ended up matching higher. Their new facilities looked amazing and all the faculty and residents seemed great. I would encourage you to go interview.

no personal experience, but i have a friend who is an intern at colorado. i've only talked to her a handful of times since she began, but she seems to absolutely love it. new facilities, excellent teaching, friendly residents. she definitely doesn't regret her decision. sorry i can't be offer more details, but i definitely can't say anything bad! 🙂

how about UNM? i have heard lots of good things about the program, albiet indirectly. anybody with some good knowledge of the program?

This is 2nd hand- but an intern who interviewed at University of Colorado got a strong feeling they weren't very happy with people taking sick/family/maternity leave and heard of one resident being hooked up to IV fluids during rounds instead of being sent home. She has also heard the same from others about the program. St. Joseph Exempla in Denver is said to be much better, community based which can be a downside if looking for a fellowship and they also don't do tubals due to the Catholic relationship at that institution and must be taught somewhere else. That's the scoop as I've heard it.

I loved UNM as well...it was my 2nd choice. The residents were great, staff very down to earth, seemed to have a good 'vibe' and the city is very affordable and weather that can't be beat.

i dunno -- ive visited a few catholic -related institutions -- and they do PLENTY of tubals. sometimes I wonder if there are myths built around catholic institutions and what they do/don't do. I think they mainly don't do "VIPS" or elective abortions -- however PC u wanna term it. but ... correct me if i'm wrong... please.

I used to work at a catholic hospital - each one varies it's policies because of local control at the diocese level. We did tubals - but it couldn't be the only reason we were going in... needed to be postpartum, with a c/s, or having another procedure done (which got us a lot of diagnostic laparoscopies for "pelvic pain" that immediately went to tubal). We did not do abortions. In fact, if there was a threatening ab, we had to wait until there was no longer a fetal heartbeat before operating, unless mom was bleeding to death.
