Found the old post on programs that rubbed the previous interviewees the wrong way.

Any updates for 2008? programs with poor residents-faculty interactions? programs on probations? programs on the downslope? unhappy residents? (shocked after reading michgirl's post on drowned) Programs with a lot of dramas?

Went to U. of Minnesota last fall. Had heard that the program was struggling for whatever reason. MY impression was that something was not right based on discussions with the residents. I just got that vibe that they were not happy with somethings but really weren't coming out and saying it.

Also, big thing for me was that you have to go to Wisconsin to do your pain months. Thats 2-3 hrs away for 3 months during your residency. Not good if you have a family.

Again, my opinion only.

Thank you for the update neuroride! I was just down in OKC for a month long in peds anesthesia. OU's faculty and residents are awesome btw. The best I've seen yet.

Just an FYI update - WVU had an extremely positive RRC review on 7/22/08, and the site visitor gave us glowing reviews, and left us with a strong expectation to come off probation when the RRC makes these decisions in October. Things are looking up and up.

Obviously nothing changes until official word comes in October, but I encourage anyone interested in this region of the country, or looking for a small but strong residency experience to apply this cycle and check us out. If probation is a deal-breaker, you'll know the status by the time interviews are scheduled anyway.

ERAS won't even allow you to apply to Methodist or Brookdale. This is a good forum, any other programs that rub the wrong way? I know some people don't want to step on toes so if you PM I'll reply back to this forum so you can stay anonymous.

I'm pretty sure those programs require their own paper applications. It's not like they were banned by ERAS. It is odd that they aren't in the match, but whatever.

I'm not sure what you mean by this post.

First off, I am not at either one of these programs, so I'm not feeling obligated to defend them. I did interview at both last year - and personally know a couple of people at one of them - and certainly have NEVER gotten the impression that there is widespread discontent.

Sure, you hear stuff like "U of C is in the ghetto", or "Northwestern works hard" - but I hardly think either one of those comments qualifies as equating to a "bad resident experience". Plus, there is no such thing as a perfect program - you can make some sort of negative statement about every program in the country. To insinuate that there is a conspiracy out there to "dupe" applicants to go to "bad" programs is a bit ludicrous. Would you really rely on a negative internet rumor to make a decision about a program?

The best thing to do is apply, go to an interview, and see for yourself. Ask pointed questions. Be wary of evasive responses. Ask the same questions over and over to different people. Compare answers. Evaluate this stuff for yourself.

As far as extending residency for "poor performance", there is a recent thread addressing that very topic (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=552356). To make a blanket statement about a program's propensity to resort to such measures based on one or two specific examples would be unwise.

To other applicants out there - be wary of posters who come on to make negative statements about programs this time of year - it very well could be a fellow applicant trying to generate "negative hype" about a program in some sort of delusional scheme to drive away competition and thus better their own chances. It happens every year.

Agreed RxBoy and Scotch. Please take subjective rumors especially from non-residents and non-attendings status with a grain of salt.
