Programs with good regional training?

st. luke's/roosevelt in manhattan claims to be one of the best in the nation for regional.
IOWA and Virginia Mason I have heard are excellent from MAyo's PD. Dr. Brown at Iowa (believe this is Iowa PD) has written several regional books and visits programs all over the country with lectures I hear he is great to work with.
I have heard that Dartmouth has a new regional expert.

Any body else out there know of any other programs....
It seems that regional skills is a GREAT aspect of anesthesiology to have mastered during residency training, yet some programs don't emphasize this aspect as much as others.....

You have to be careful when evaluating the regional experience between different programs. Some of them give you a total number of blocks that sounds really impressive. However, when you actually look at the breakdown of the blocks, the majority are labor epidurals and spinals.

The best programs in the country as far as regional is concerned are the ones that offer a rotation in the best regional hospitals in thecountry. The hospitals are HSS (Hospital for Special Surgery) in NYC and Virginia Mason in Seattle. The two programs that allow rotations at HSS are Cornell and Hopkins. For Cornell HSS is a home hospital and you spend 6 weeks there as a first year (CA-1), and then as much as 6 months as a third year (CA-3). Hopkins allow a few weeks as a visiting resident.... Don't know much about Virginia Mason other than that it is one of the top two (along with HSS) as far as the number and variety of regional cases are concerned. Good luck.
