are there any difference b/w prolactin and oxytocin in funcionality?

both are produced in the posterior pituitary gland.

prolactin stimulates milk production in the mammary gland

oxytocin stimulates labor contractions

That's not fully correct. Prolactin is secreted by the ANTERIOR pituitary gland (remeber FLAT PEG (FSH, LH, ACTH, TSH, Prolactin, Endorphins, GH) and stimulates milk production and secretion in female mammary glands. Oxytocin is secreted by the POSTERIOR pituitary gland and also serves to stimlate milk production while also increasing the strength and frequency of uterine muscle contractions.

One more thing. Oxytocin is produced by the neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamus.

whoops. i meant to say that the posterior pituitary doesn't produce any hormones at all. it just stores and secretes oxytocin and ADH which were synthesized by the hypothalamus.

I don't believe that oxytocin stimulates milk production. It stimulates the contraction of muscles in the breast to increase milk flow. It is made in hypothalmus, not in posterior pituitary. It is stored in the posterior pituitary.
