Has anyone studied for the mcat for a year or longer, if so how did it go, or are you doing it now, besides the possibality of maybe forgetting some minor detail and negatives of this

Studying for a year is probably way past the point of diminishing returns.

It's been done. Some people are really that stupid. The person I'm thinking of matriculated I might add.

I spent two months, would have been better with three but its tough to keep a strict schedule. Coming from a graduate biology background it was enough. Preparing for the MCAT is super important and isn't comparable to most ug exams. Give yourself more or less time depending on where you are and what your background is.

It's all about quality, not quantity. So don't spend a year glancing at books while you're watching TV.

I plan on taking the MCAT in April 2007 and am glad I started studying in August of 2005. I work full-time nights and part-time evenings and then go to grad school for clinical microbiology during the day. If I hadn't started studying this early, I'd be using a walker to enter the test center.

I think it can be done, if it's been a while since you took the prereqs. If you work, go to school, or any combination of these, you'll need to plan that far in advance. But as it was said above, it has to be quallity time, plan to review a couple of times over this long period and allow about 3 months at the end to do a fast pace review and lots of practice exams under real time conditions.
I have a friend who did this, it was >10 years since she took her prereqs, was in grad school and was having a baby at the time. She just found out yesterday she got admitted off the waiting list to her dream school!

same here, worked nights, pre reqs during the day, mortgage, cars, family....etc. definitely plan ahead!!! emergencies come up, crisis happens, good luck, it can be done
