i have an invitation for an interview at a program that i'm not really that interested in and can't fit into my schedule. what's the proper way to turn down the invitation?

also, suppose you schedule an interview and then later decide that you don't want to interview at that program, what's the proper was to cancel an interview you've already scheduled?

A simple polite email is sufficient. They see this stuff all the time so do not worry about hurting feelings. Be appreciative and polite.

Just send a brief email... you can make it like this.

Dear Coordinator (or use her name),

Thank you for inviting me for an interview to your program. Unfortunately, I have to decline the offer.

Sincerely,

Dear Ms. x,

thank you so much for this opportunity to interview at xxxxx, unfortunately due to time (or financial) constraints, I will not be able to come for an interview. I wish you success in this years recruitment process.

Best,
