I can't believe this. . .yet another "high pass" in a rotation I busted my butt in. I've only managed to get one measly honors this year (in fam med, something I don't even want to pursue), the rest have pretty much all been "high pass," whatever that means. one pass in med, was my 1st rotation--busted my butt there as well. In any case, residency progs are just gonna see the high passes as a slew of "pass" grades, so once again, on paper I'm an avg student.

Man, I see some impressive posts from students who have honors in all rotations--congrats to you guys! I can not measure up in that respect.

I hope the anes programs at Penn or Hopkins will still want me. . .

Sorry, just venting. . .

You better start thinking of some middle tier programs, ChicaMedica 😳

DOn't worry, high pass is still good, you still have a good shot at top programs. What are your boards?

My step 1 is 223. Haven't done Step 2 yet, but will try to study hard for it this year as I'll have more time while doing research (btw, taking a year off for an NIH fellowship--I don't know how helpful this will be in terms of residency app if my numbers aren't good enough. I love research though).

I usually do worse on exams than I can demonstrate in person, but I will bust my butt to ace step 2.

Yeah I know high pass is still good, but all the residency progs will see from my school is "pass" not "high pass" b/c "high pass" doesn't get recorded in the official transcript. 😡

Hey, at least your school lists "Honors" on the transcript. My school considers anything over 90 to be honors, but puts "High Pass" on the damn transcript! We're on the 3-tier F/P/HP system which sucks! Wish they had "honors" or just A/B/C/D grades for 3rd yr!

Chicamedica-

A lot of people from my school (below top 50, private allopathic med school) matched into anes with less than stellar scores...MUCH lower than yours. I know of one guy who matched at emory with a 205! Plus he had straight passes during 3rd yr. You WILL match somewhere, and probably at a pretty good program.

I think your research fellowship will really help out though. Another student from my school did a HHMI-NIH fellowship but had average board scores (210) and matched at Mt. Sinai in New York. Alot of people think that program is one of the best in the city.

PS- I was searching through my old posts on the PIC page thread in the lounge....did you ever meet up with that guy you were going to ask out? And how come you said my face pic was cute, but didn't say anything about my body pic....am I really that unattractive? 🙁 Just kidding around though. However, it would be nice to see a pic of you....I bet you have the high cheekbones, luscious full lips, and thick, beautiful curves that a lot of the latin american women in my school have 😉 .
