Post what you have heard about different medical specialties for other SDNers. This will help out future and current medical students.

If you disagree with any claims please refute them with evidence. I'll go first.

CARDIOLOGY

Pro
1. Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer in america. Thus, this specialty seems to make a huge impact in saving people's lives. A very meaningful specialty
2. Above average salary, job demand, and job security.

Con
1. 80+ hours a week
2. Interventional Cardiology could be another 8+ years of training TOTAL after medical school.

DERMATOLOGY

Pro
1. Above average salary, many cosmetic procedures (not insurance)
2. Making people happy (for whatever reason, people tend to be happier when you fix their skin than fix their heart)
3. Great hours, no call

Con
1. Next to impossible to get into residencies
