To start off I'll say hello and I'm glad to be a part of this forum. I'm looking to gain some knowledge and insight from those of you who can help with the process of preparing for and applying to pharmacy school.

I graduated in 2010 from a state university with a bachelors of political science and a low 2.4 gpa. I'm not looking to deflect responsibility. That was something I would have done in my past, but I have to own it and the gpa is what it is. I am forced to accept that at this point and I can only do things to prove I'm better than the gpa. My original goal during my freshman year was to complete the prerequisites for pharmacy school and it's still my desire.

Now considering my past, my idea was to complete the remainder of my chem, bio, and phys classes to satisfy pharm school requirements.

If I were to finish the classes (4 chem classes, 2 bio classes plus 2 phys classes) and got very good grades in each of them, would it be enough to show them I've matured and become a focused and determined applicant? I know I am, but with good performance in those 8 classes be enough evidence?

On top of taking those classes and scoring well on the pcat I'd get involved with doing some work as a tech in a pharmacy. Do you think I stand a chance of getting into pharm school if I accomplish all of that? Or would I be wasting my time and money taking the undergrad chem and bio classes, preparing for pcats, etc?

For reference, the school I would be applying to first would be the University of Md Baltimore School of Pharm.

Thank you all in advance for any help!

Of course, there's always a chance. From going through this forum, I've seen people who have it worse than you. If you really do take the time to perform well on all your prereqs, score well on the PCAT, and gain pharmacy experience, then I'm sure you'll get in somewhere. You might have to settle for a candidate status school, but hey who knows. There's more to the application than just gpa. Just demonstrate that you do have what it takes. Good luck!

I think doing what you plan on doing can definitely turn things around for better. If you haven't thought about it, I'd highly suggest applying to many schools if your financial situation allows for it. I'm applying to 14 different schools with a sub-3.0 overall GPA since I feel like I'm gonna get screened out by the computer with my not-so competitive GPA.

If you were to take all those science courses and get a 3.5+ GPA, do well on the PCAT 80+, get involved in some extracurricular activities such as volunteering/shadowing or get a job as a tech, and have strong letters of recommendation, I say you have a great chance to get in pharmacy school.
