SUTS2: most common organism = staph epidermidis
Combank: most common organism = staph epidermidis
comquest: most common organism = staph aureus

If this thing shows up in the comlex with both staph aureus and epidermidis, which one is the right answer?

I hate it when qbanks have different answers for the same question...

prosthetic valve endocarditis >>>>>>>>>>staph epidermidis

defective/damaged valve endocarditis >>>>>>>>>>viridans group

acute endocarditis (IV drug use) >>>>>>>>>>staph aureus

strep bovis endocarditis >>>>>>>>>>look for colon cancer

Of course, if there is an active focus mentioned in the question stem e.g. UTI than it is Gram -ve (E Coli) etc

The way I've always learned is that subacute bacteria endocarditis = strep viridans, while acute endocarditis = staph aureus usually
