Protryptyline (Vivactil)

For some reason I have it in my head that protriptyline (misspelled in thread title) is a precursor or metabolite of another TCA (i.e. "pro" drug), but perhaps this is incorrect.

Could someone clarify this and/or provide any other interesting information or experiences about this TCA? It appears to be less popular than several other tricyclics. Is there a reason why this is the case? Is it a good drug?

I believe it's structurally very similar to amitriptyline. Just a couple of differences in double bonds.

I don't know that it's a pro-drug per se, though.

I used it several times in the past for cataplexy/narcolepsy. Not considered to be sedating, but to the best of my recollection it has prominent anticholinergic side effects
