I'm thoroughly confused about page 374 in 2011 FA.

Under the median nerve row it lists ulnar deviation as a sign in distal lesion - isn't that a sign of proximal lesion as with a distal lesion the branch to flex the wrist would have already come off?

I'm also confused to the differences in motor deficits due to a proximal vs distal lesion. Are there some nerves that branch off on the arm that go into the hand that I'm not aware of? Why wouldn't distal and proximal lesions of the median nerve give the same deficits respective to the hand?

In the errata it says wrist flexion is a deficit with distal lesion but isn't that a proximal lesion deficit like I mentioned above?

😕

I'm not sure if this will help but I have in my errata note (for FA 2010 listed on their website) on the table you are talking about that "proximal lesions will also include the symptoms of distal lesions"

The errata they listed just confused things for me more - it seems like the two things under Signs should be transposed and the motor deficits should be left the way they are. The errata also does say that both proximal and distal lesions can cause ape hand, so they probably should have also specified to say that both can cause loss of thumb opposition, since that is what ape hand is.
