Hello, do you still gain numbers on PRR if you're second assist? I'm saying this because I've done a few osseous second assist numbers and really would like them to count lol.

My colleague residents don't seem to know because they just log things and get their numbers easily enough to where is technically doesn't matter so they don't keep track. I'm only in my 2nd month so I want all my numbers to count asap.

I don't believe so. From what I remember (I could be wrong), only one resident can get first assist credit for a case if multiple residents are scrubbed in at the same time. You could still log the case if you want, but you can't put yourself as primary on that case if another resident did (and vice-versa).

Second assist numbers do not count towards the individual requirements on PRR, only first assists do. However (in my opinion, very unfortunately), second assists do count towards the total number of cases overall that are required to be completed in order to graduate residency. From my understanding, though I’m not entirely sure so hopefully someone can correct me if I’m wrong, second assist on certain RRA procedures like TARs are also worth logging since future employers may ask to see your residency logs to establish your privileges and what procedures you’ll be allowed to perform in their ORs.

2nd assists dont count toward the numbers you need to satisfy each category (ex: 80 digits, you need 80 1st assist digits) but they do count to the 400 total procedures you need, and they count as a "case" (you need 300 cases, each surgery = 1 case)

Where do I see the total number of procedures I need on PRR?
