Hey snd'ers,
I'm wondering if it's getting a little late to submit AMCAS early? I was hoping to be in the early group, and really have no excuse not to be... took the MCAT last April and have everything ready except for the personal statement. I've never enjoyed writing, and am looking for any excuse to delay. Something's on paper now, and I need to get it looked at... I'm thinking about Essayedge.com and wondering if anyone has tried it, and was satisfied or dissatisfied with it?? Also, was there an editor there that you were particularly happy with?

Thanks much for your advice!

I did not use any of the online editing serives...however I have read positive things about essayrx on here before. You may want to do a search, I know it would pull some info up. I found that the most valuable resources for me were well educated people that knew me personally. I used my english professors, my academic advisor, the pre-med advisor, a few english majoring grad students, family members, etc. I felt as if the editors who knew me personally were able to give constructive criticism without losing the style and concept that I typically write in. Good luck with you statement.

so if everyone seems to think adderal is immoral and cheating, no one feels the same about editing services or personal people editing their PS? not a judgement, just a question....

Someone else on another thread posted two essays, one that he (I think it's a he, anyway) wrote himself, another that he paid Essayedge to edit for him. I wasn't impressed with the version that he paid for, honestly, although some other posters sort of liked it.

I agree with kaikai128 - if you can get another person, and not a service, to look at it, that would be good. If you'd like, you can send it to me and I'll look at it. Just to set people's minds at ease, I already applied last year, and so have no need to steal your ideas. I've read PSes for a few people on SDN, and can guarantee fast turn around time - 1 or 2 days, maximum. I was a history major, so I've written/read a lot of essays. PM it to me if you'd like.

I'm not sure how asking someone else to read your PS is considered cheating - all good writers need someone to proofread their work, if only to check for typos and grammer mistakes, if nothing else.

I recently used essayrx for editing. I think it's a good option if you've got the foundation of your essay already laid out because the editors are pretty good at improving the specific mechanics of your essay such as the sentence structure (to make it flow better). However, I wouldn't directly submit that edited version because many people use these editing services, and most of the edited essays end up sounding similar in tone and writing style.

Take your essay over to your school's writing center (every university has one of these). Or if you can, see if the school newspaper editor can help you out. They are most likely a literature or journalism grad student and would see this as a fun thing to do (yes, some people actually enjoy this part of the process) and are getting bored over the summer break. Good luck!
