So everyone warned me to type straight into the ERAS and not copy and paste "fancy" quotes, so I did that, but now I was told by a program director that there were funny question marks in my PS... none of them show up in ERAS or anything. Is there any way to check and see EXACTLY what program directors will see? Im now worried my statement is unreadable...

And now I am super confused, because ERAS says that the print ps link will allow you to view your personal statement as programs would, and when I do that everything looks fine including my fancy quotes...

Cut and paste your PS into a text file and remove all fancy formatting (instructions vary depending on which operating system you're using). Then cut and paste the pure text into your PS box. That should remove any special characters that the ERAS system might have trouble interpreting.

That's exactly what I did...

Is there any way you can ask that PD to show you a copy of your PS? Otherwise, there's probably nothing you can really do besides going back to the ERAS box, manually deleting the quotation marks, and inserting " manually. If you followed the instructions precisely, I'd almost guess that the problem is on the PD's computer and nothing you did wrong.

This is simply not something to worry about. We see it all the time, and ignore it. If there's a PD out there who doesn't ignore it, would you really want to be at a program like that?
