I sent my PS for editing to a whole bunch of people ( mainly people who are good writers but know nothing about med school applications) Most people said I need to mention what makes me a good doctor but Im not one to brag or anything like that. I prefer to just talk about my motivation to become a physician, and hopefully my application will speak for itself. What do you guys think? Did you mention what makes you a good doctor? thanks!

for my ps i mostly wrote about motivational factors. but don't be afraid to brag about yourself - if that's what you mean..

I didn't talk about why I thought I would be a good doctor. But I did talk about my personal characteristics that make me believe I am suited for a career as a physician.

How do you know what it takes to be a good doctor?

I focused on motivations, personal development/clinical experiences narrative, and qualities (but the qualities part is primarily supported by m ECs and LORs).

great thanks! I agree I dont know what a good doctor is, its their job to teach me. Of course I will do my best to show that I am a worthy candidate but i will make it subtle.

I agree with what most of your reviewers said. My PS is one paragraph of motivation and four paragraphs of bragging. We'll see how it goes.

You should say it without saying it... discuss the qualities and interests that you have which (inherently) relate to being a great doc

From reviewing PS's and the general consensus of other people who do the same thing I do,the idea is NOT to say you'd make a great doctor but to show (in your essay) qualities/traits that makes the reader go "Yeah, this guy would make an awesome physician!".

Don't be arrogant and say 'Let's be serious...4.0 gpa and 35 MCAT? Bitch please, how am I not an awesome doctor?"

This brings up a good point. My reviewers all really liked that I never stated "why" I would make a good doctor but when they were done reading it, they consistently stated they "knew" I would make a good doctor. In other words, they liked what was between the lines. It's often what goes unsaid that is most powerful. This is where your passion should shine. If you have to say, "I would make a good doctor because..." you're in trouble, but if you are able to effectively imply such a thing through the actions and experiences described in your PS, your reader will come right along with you. Let your reader make the conclusions. Your job is simply to ensure the reader makes the right conclusions!
