Hey everyone out there,

I just need some help with the PSAT. I'm going to be taking the exam for the first time as a sophomore after summer vacation. How long is enough for preparation? I only have three months left, is that too little? Also can anyone give me helpful ways on covering all the math concepts required? Finally, can anyone give me a link or few that are helpful for the preparation of this exam?

Thank you, all help is kindly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!😍

no offense but isnt the purpose of the PSATs to help prepare you for the SATs? so you kinda know whats up? I never took the SAT I (only ACT and SAT IIs) so I dont remember

You don't have to study for PSAT, especially when you are taking it as a sophomore. The whole point, like the person above said, is to practice for the SAT. Maybe, if you really want, you could study in junior year because that's the year you get scholarships, but you really shouldn't. However, if you want, there are a lot of books about PSAT prep which covers everything the PSAT will cover. I'm sure if you google PSAT prep you would find something.

So do you people actually have links? And can you please answer my questions highlighted in green

You don't really need to specifically dedicate any time to studying for the PSAT. The idea is to show you a little bit of what to expect on the SAT. Just the regular courses you are taking at school are more than sufficient.

Again, you don't really need to do any studying for this test. I never studied for it and I did fine.
Also can anyone give me helpful ways on covering all the math concepts required?
The regular math curriculum that your state requires for you to graduate (Algebra I/II, geometry, perhaps introductory trig) will cover the vast majority of what you will see.
Finally, can anyone give me a link or few that are helpful for the preparation of this exam?
Don't know what to tell you on this one. You are making a mountain out of a molehill with this test. I personally don't know of any links/nor did I use any for PSAT prep, and chances are slim anyone on here knows any links...but there is one that might help you out....

It depends on the person. Some people study like crazy for a long time, which usually isn't smart, while others don't study at all. The SAT is really just a test to see how well you mastered any topics that were probably learnt in class. The SAT review books are just that- a review. If you have a good understanding of the subjects that you learnt in school, you should be fine.

I plan to purchase the CollegeBoard review book.
I don't want to start too early or I might forget the stuff reviewed in the book by the time I take the SAT.
So, I'm not really sure when to look through it.

I'm not sure. What grade are you in? It also depends on when you plan on taking it.

Why are you people worrying about this test. It's almost next to useless and you're not doing yourself any favors by putting this much pressure on yourselves. You gotta start learning what's not that important in life or you're just going to get stressed out over everything in the end. Especially if you're goal is medicine you need to learn better coping skills, it ain't gettin' any easier you know.

Also, in the grand scheme of things, a one time 2500 dollar scholarship is a drop in the bucket if you plan to enter a prestigious college and/or continue into medical school. Stressing over 3 months over such a meager payout seems kinda silly.

👍

This is one SEMESTER at a cheap in-state school. Get a part-time job and build some references during those three months. Goes a lot farther.

I'm going to be a junior this year.
I plan on taking it in the spring.

If I were you I wouldn't start studying for it yet, but that's just me. Maybe you need more time to review. It really is subjective. I think that during winter break you can start studying and then everyday do a couple of pages or review a couple of topics.

Thanks.

Just take it cold and treat it as a diagnostic exam. That way you know what you need to study (by seeing what you got wrong), and what you don't need to study as much.

There is absolutely no reason to study for the PSAT, let me repeat it...NONE. The math is very basic, Geometry and Algebra I and II. And really, unless you are trying to get into Harvard, I don't see a huge reason to stress over the SAT. I didn't study for the SAT and did fine. You're a sophomore. Worry about getting a car and all that and having fun. The PSAT if anything should serve as a gauge for what you need to work on. Don't worry about it at all 😀

Just take the practice PSAT (PPSAT).

Now the question is when to start studying for the PPSAT... hmmm
