Just wondering if anyone knows how important it really is to have had a publication, and also if chances of being accepted directly after receiving a bachelors are greatly reduced. And while I'm at it... how much clinical experience are they really probably looking for? To clarify, I am mostly talking about university based programs for the Psy.D. Thanks for any help in advance.

You don't need a pub, especially for PsyDs and even for clinical PhDs, as people keep repeating. Publications are the exception, not the rule, even for admits. Let me put it this way:

They help but not having one won't hurt.

I think Jon summeed it up, if you have a publication and are applying to a Rutgers or Baylor (More research oriented PsyD programs) a publication will look GREAT on your resume!

Otherwise, you dont need one for a PsyD.
