Hello all,

I finished my in-pt psych rotation recently and was wondering how common the kick-***** schedule my attending had... she worked 7 10-12 hour shifts in a row and then had 21 days off. I enjoyed the rotation and think a schedule like that would be really conducive to family life. I tried searching jobs to see if I could find jobs with similar schedules, even 7 on 14 off would be awesome. Is there a proper term for this style of workschedule that I should be using as a keyword?

Thanks!

That sounds like part time, how much is she making in that position. Im just a pre med but I'ts known that a huge chunk of psychiatrist work part time, some of them work in a private practice part time and hospital or other setting part time. I'm no expert but that schedule sounds attainable (without much hassle) given the demand of psych.

It's a full time benefited position at an acute care inpatient facility and it pays 180k. My mind is going wild with all the things I could do with 2-3/4 weeks off per month haha.

3 psych attendings I'm with also have a very similar schedule to the schedule you described... i'm in my 2nd wk of psych right now and loving it... mostly because everyone is so laid back...

all 3 attendings are full time with benefits, etc... word on the street is that they make over 200k... but I don't know for sure...

What part of the country are you doing your psych rotation? I started considering psych when I was on family and was warned about a pt with a personality disorder... they had to pull me out after 30 minutes of talking to them...I lost track of time because of how fascinating it was... I was always leaning EM but now I'm not so sure anymore... any psych residents or attendings who might know more about this care to weigh in? Thnx all.

i'm in ohio... they say that the midwest generally tends to pay more... at least that's what I've heard

yup, definitely fascinating stuff, especially since everyone's so laid back that you don't have to cut your interview short to be able to make it back in time to write your progress note, presentation, etc...
