lets say someone does 4 months of electives during their PGY-4 of their psychiatry residency, in a particular subspecialty (i.e. pain management) with the hopes of landing a fellowship.
when exactly does this person submit their applications for a pain management fellowship? is it at the end of PGY-3 or during the beginning of PGY-4? how much weight is placed on the applicant's experience gained from the elective time, if their application has already been submitted?
also, is it difficult to arrange to do electives at a visiting instituition (i.e. in pain management), assuming your program allows you to do so?
i appreciate any responses. thank you.
