Which major do you suggest? I'm not a fan of writing lengthy papers, so I'm considering switching my major from Psychology to Health & Human Performance (aka Exercise Science). However, if it must be done, I will do it.

Which combo do you think is the BEST fit for OT school:
  • Psychology major with a minor in Health & Human Performance
  • Health & Human Performance Major (Clinical/Wellness Emphasis) with a minor in Psychology
  • Psychology & Health & Human Performance (Clinical/Wellness Emphasis) Double Major

I like psychology because much of OT has a psychological basis.
I love exercise science because it encompasses health classes AND exercise science classes. (Also, my boyfriend is probably going to be majoring in this because he wants to go to PT school... BONUS! 😀)
However, I am in the Honors Program at my school and feel that I can handle the challenges of a double major if it's necessary.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS SUGGEST?

Chile, honestly, any major is fine. Don't do extra and unnecessary because you believe it will increase your chances of being accepted into OT school because it won't.

Major in what you want.

OH YEAH, any other major, major/minor, and double major suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as well!

Then... I guess it's Health & Human Performance for me. I actually have an interest in those classes!

Like BowlofSunshine said, major in what you enjoy. Ask any director of an MOT program and they'll tell you that their students come from a variety of academic backgrounds. The more you enjoy what you're studying, the better you'll retain it and be able to apply it. One of the OTs I've encountered majored in International Studies, but she still made it through OT school and is an amazing therapist!

Major in whatever interests you the most. OT's come from different backgrounds from psych, kines, visual arts, business, child development, and even photography. At the end of the day everyone pretty much takes the same pre-reqs to get into grad school. Don't over-think it. Do what you love and I'm sure that will reflect in your GPA and your will to be an OT. Good luck!

Honestly, like other people have said major in whatever interests you. While I suggest you get the pre-reqs out of the way while you're still in school, you really need to relax and concentrate on getting good grades in whatever major you choose because GPA is a HUGE factor in getting accepted into any OT program nowadays. But it is true that OT has a psychological basis and some elements of A & P and exercise science, as well. But honestly my advice would be to focus on doing well without killing yourself by taking on too much. You should also ENJOY your college experience.

After hearing all these responses, I'm definitely going to be majoring in Health & Human Performance/Kinesiology. Thanks!
