Psychiatry certification exam
Started by Piaget
Any idea when we are getting results ? Thanks
nope--getting restless. You'll probably find out before me due to mail taking longer to get here.
yeah--if it weren't for that darn part C I wouldn't be so on edge with a heightened startle response, irritibility, nightmares, physiological response every time i look in my mail box, avoidence of things that remind me of tests, etc.
me too getting restless and having intrusive thoughts ;-)
Develop a compulsion to attenuate this.
Has anyone heard anything or found out results yet?

Holy crap, this thing costs $3000?? Dang, thought Steps 1, 2 and 3 were expensive... ugh! Good luck to you all.
officially losing it....last year scores released at 8 weeks exactly. Well past that. Last year the folio "pending release of grades" was up for max of 11 days....well past that. What the hell is the hold up!?....agree with others $3000 for a MC question test and no instant results is crazy in this day and age.
Thanks for the vent.
Thanks for the vent.
they said couple more weeks !!
Man....really? Did you call up somebody and ask them recently?
The ABPN normally releases scores on Friday mornings. Ck back tomorrow.
Interesting, and both the folio and verify sites are down....hmmmmm...
Yeah, im getting restless...its been over two months!
they said couple more weeks !!
If they release grades on Fridays is that two weeks from today or last Friday?
Sucks....

I am now Board Certified by ABPN!!!
Congratulations to all our new brethren and sistern.
My name is there too. I checked and saw that everyone from my class had passed too.
I wonder what the pass rate was. Exam didn't feel too bad, but I still worried a bit.

where, exactly, did you look to see names listed?

nevermind, i got it. phew!
Do tell where the names are. I got in through the Folios part that said I passed, but the website sucks so much it's rather anticlimactic. Maybe if we paid 4k instead of 3k they could update past the best web advances 1997 had to offer.

haha.
just go to abpn.com and in the top right corner there's a section called "ABPN verifyCERT." if you click that, you can search by name.
thanks dude.
looks like all my peeps passed.

*breathes sigh of relief*
Can somebody please guide what to study for section C of exam?
I used the old MassGeneral board review, some of it is dated, but the section on stages of development, etc was great. I actually used First Aid for psychiatry. I learned very little from that text though; I felt it was too basic.
And a couple of days before the exam, I used a copy of casefiles for neurology--the med student review book.
I did no practice questions and I study for an hour a day for a few weeks. And I then spent a few hours reviewing the weeked before the exam.
During the exam, I felt fine, like I knew most of the questions, 40 or more per section, I knew cold, then could narrow down about 10 questions to two choices and then guessed on a few each section.
But I always worry that I didn't pass.
I was sure that I did good,I can still bet that I would have passed neurology and psychiatry section but it was section ''C'' that I was not sure about.I am waiting now for result in mail to see the actual scores.I took Beat the Boards course but I found it very deficient when it comes to clinical cases.Anyway thanks for your input.
On part C: Im not sure if I could give anyone advice on this. I thought it was an ambiguous crap-shoot and if I had failed this would have been the reason. I'd say know the different parts of the mental status exam and perhaps compare with other providers for subjectivity? Make sure to read the full question and know that the question stem gets larger as you progress with the same vignette (I kept missing this). The questions in this section that were knowledge base I thought were decent--maybe even a little harder and less straight forward then the other section, but the more subjective ones, I was like, WTF?!?
On the MOC: mine says that too, but I felt too stupid to ask what it meant--thought it was the oral boards that we don't need to take, but then it might just mean that we need to recert/do something else? I don't completely understand the new requirements, nor do I have anyone here to go to for advice.

Thanks for the input. I studied hard and the result was not according to my expectations but I was already feeling over the edge because of section C because in the end I was always left with 2 possible right answers. I only studied spiegel, kaplan and beat the boards. There is something somewhere that I am not getting in section C,

I pretty much used the Speigal book, this series of three blue books that I can't remember the title of, and basically read the Mass General Book cover to cover the week before. I worked hard in residency when it came to academic things, but I think we all agree the part C was crazy.
Good luck.
When is the actual score going to be released? Will we get a PDF file to download like USMLE or actual mail delivered?
I don't know if I can comment just yet on how to do better on the vignette part. I used the Spiegel book and BTB. I did not do the videos from BTB multiple times. Basically, going over the BTB notes over and over again, will help with the content questions on the clinical part.
There is supposedly a new Mass General book out that people were talking about on their website.

Lot of people are still using the old BTB (that is if you can get your hands on them)
Nevermind about my question. The ABPN website says the Grade letters were mailed out on Nov. 16, so that's Friday.

so i got the grade letter today and it discusses the maintenance of certification requirements. it indicates there's a requirement for performance-in-practice (PIP) units... but i can't find any explanation on the website or in the letter that explains what those are or how to go about completing them. i know it's nothing to worry about acutely, but i'd like to have some idea what i need to be doing going forward. anybody have any knowledge?
