Does anyone know of programs that offer psychodynamic clinical/practicum opportunities, but also heavily emphasize research and publishing. I would ideally like to do research on therapeutic outcome, developmental psychopatholgy, or the nature and treatment of anxiety disorders (yes, I know, very vague, but I'm only an undergraduate). That being said, however, I'm interested in learning how to treat patients with psychodynamic therapy, though I am also interested in learning other modalities (CBT, IP, Emotion focused, mindfullness).

So, does anyone know programs that have good researchers, strong funding, good faculty----but also offer possibilities to learn psychodynamic work (doesn't have to be the major focus of the department). For example, one school that I think would be ideal is Northwestern---great faculty, research oriented, but has opportunities to learn dynamic therapy techniques.

Thanks guys

I know that there is not a lot of emphasis or talk about psychodynamic approaches to therapy and clinical psychology, but I was hoping that someone could provide some information on good programs in the country that are well-respected, have good research opportunities, and offer a variety of approaches to clinical practice-----one of those being psychodynamic.

Northwestern Medical School would be a great example. They have a well-respected faculty and program, and it is easy to conduct research, and learn a variety of theories of the mind, one of which is a psychodynamic approach.

Any other suggestions?

I honestly don't know of any information first-hand, but I always make the assumption that the NY-based programs are strong in psychodynamic training. Adelphi is notoriously psychodynamic, and I know that Fordham has psychodynamic opportunities in their otherwise eclectic program.

You may also be able to get this kind of exposure at St. Johns?
