Psychologist vs. Psychiatrist

Please excuse my ignorance... what is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist. Can I become a psychiatrist after D.O. School? Thank you, Amy

I do know D.O.'s in some allopathic psychiatry residency training programs, so that is a possiblity. I don't know if there are separate osteopathic psychiatry programs.

There are plenty of D.O.'s in allopathic hospitals. Nearly all D.O. graduates go on to allopathic residencies. Here's a sampling:
