Hi..I just found this site by accident while googling articles about psychology and I'm going through a dilemma.

I'm a freshman at a university and I'm currently taking psych 101. I love this class and my professor is extremely interesting and teaches the subject very well and is very passionate about psychology. The problem is is that I have been 2.5ing the past two exams and I've done everything I could to do well for this second exam. I read the book before lecture, actively listened to him and took notes, went back to the dorm and listened to his lecture again, filling out the notes I missed, rewrote my notes, and studied four days in advance for the exam and did his review sheet. I honestly don't know what else to do because this is my lowest grade so far out of all of my classes.

Like I said before, this professor knows how to teach, but his tests are a beast. I signed up to take cognitive psychology with him (before I got the second 2.5) because the other professor who teaches it is also hard and I'd rather go with the same professor I had for 101. I don't know if his tests are hard because his specialization is cog psych and not general psychology, or if this is how he is as a professor. His previous ratings said that he used to be easy, but he changed the test difficulty. For some reason, even though I'm currently 2.5ing the class, I still want to go on and take cognitive psych with him. (I loved learning the chapters about memories and how the brain works).

I made a request for an appointment to discuss my current performance and I don't know what else to do.

101 classes tend to be more 'factual' and general, and sometimes people don't connect with it as well. Once you get into more depth, it becomes much more conceptual. I liken it to learning an instrument. In the beginning you must learn the boring stuff, but once you get past that....you get to the real meat of the art. If it is something you truly enjoy.....just keep after it. People can learn very differently, so experiment with different types of review/studying. Best of luck.

thank you 🙂 I will discuss this with him, but I don't want to drop cog psych because the exams are tough in 101. 😛
