Hey everyone

Does anyone know the how psychology courses are placed in the application? From my understanding, no psyc classes count but certain ones do? I've taken physiological psych and a nervous systems and behavior course but am unsure what category they fall under as they are listed in the PSYC dept. At my school however, these two courses can crosslink with biology for credit if you are a bio major

Thoughts?

It will fall under psych. It doesn't matter if you can get bio credit at your school because ADEA will just look at the title of the course and adjust accordingly.

For example, my physiology class I took as an elective for my biochemistry degree counts toward my chem gpa at my school even though it falls under the bio dept (because the biochem dept at my school is combined with the chem dept). However, when I submit my transcripts ADEA will calculate count my physiology class as bio units even though at my UG it counts as chem credits..

that sucks 🙁
some of the psych courses had science based components like action potentials, neurotransmitters etc etc when is the ADEA going to realize the differences???? its very frustrating

they might be counted as bio class though when aadsas calculates your sgpa even if its listed as a psych course

From the ADEA course list, it looks like it will count. I only ask because it seems from past threads it looks like people had trouble placing those courses in their BCP.

But thanks for the input!

Hm, well I'm a psych major and did not count any of my psych courses towards my science gpa when I applied this cycle.

no psych courses will count (ie. social, personality, etc) however certain ones like what I've posted above and a few others will according to ADEA's courselist seen here: http://www.adea.org/dental_educatio...letingAADSASApplication/Pages/Coursework.aspx

click on examples highlighted in blue

but im not applying this cycle so I can't really confirm anything hence Im asking

did u list them as bio courses? theres a little sheet that lists what psych courses can be counted as bio ones, so i tried to follow the sheet as best i could, adjusting to my specific courses, and they counted all of the ones i marked as bio into my sgpa

do you know what courses you marked as "bio"? some psych courses (such as Perception and Sensory Processes and Psychology of Aging) I have trouble listing whether it is bio or not.

Oh nuts, my adviser told me they didn't count so I didn't try to put any. Now I wish I had :/ well no use crying over spilt milk. I already applied.

the link explains the process but also includes a link to a pdf file which gives examples of "bio" classes, such as cognitive psychology and others. mainly, the only psych classes that are included under the "bio" grouping are cognition and more neuro based classes, but others are also included.
