Hey all!

I have a question to ask anyone applying to or entering MPH programs specializing in Social and Behavioral Sciences/Behavioral Sciences and Health Education. I am a current undergraduate student as a psychology major and public health minor. I will finish most of my psych requirements in a few semesters along with my public health minor requirements.

I have a pretty decent GPA and have some time to complete more research with some reputable psychology professors at my university. My question is that, for MPH programs, will unrelated psychology research experience (my research focuses on cognition and social behavior), a decent GPA, and GRE scores with good recs be sufficient for admission to an MPH program?

I am considering Emory, USF, BU (current undergrad here!), Yale, UT Houston, Columbia, GWU, and UNC Chapel Hill.

I don't see why you wouldn't. I was a psychology major and got into all of the schools I applied to. All schools take applicants from different backgrounds. What you should really make sure to focus on is your GRE, personal statement, and make sure your letters of rec are tight. Also you have a better chance of getting into schools when you apply early, such as October. Best of luck

It should be fine. Like the other poster mentioned, focus on your GRE scores and personal statement. Frame your psych research so it most closely relates to your interests in public health (especially if you have some community-type research). Or at least talk about the skills you learned and how it influenced your decision to pursue a MPH in health behavior.

👍 I agree. Having a diverse background may even assist with you standing out of the bunch. Good luck to OP.
