I'm applying to PsyD programs. I'm wondering whether the statement of purpose should be specific about what area I want to focus on and what faculty I want to work with, even though the degree is not research-focused. Also, should I name profs who fit my area of interest in my statement if I haven't contacted them personally?

Lastly, how much research experience do PsyD programs look for, if any?

My top choice is the PGSP- Stanford program. Any current PGSP-Stanford folks, I'd love to get feedback on my statement. Thanks!

When I wrote my personal statements for the PsyD programs I was applying to, I included research/clinical interests and faculty with similar interests as mine. So basically, I didn't make too many adjustments from the personal statements of the PhD programs I was applying to. In my view, it seems like that would show the school that you've done your homework on their program--which is good 🙂 I wouldn't play up research too much though, just in case they think you're not a right fit for their program (i.e. I want to be a full time researcher). In my ps, I specified my clinical interests over research interests. Good luck!
