hi guys

I am new to the forum. I am a licensed PT in state of NJ. I have my undergrad education from India (Bachelors in PT) and entry level masters in physiotherapy (MPT) from India followed by Advanced Masters in Orthopedic Physical therapy (MSPT) from USA and Doctorate in PT (DPT) also from USA. I would like to get in to Osteopathic Medicine in UMDNJ, New jersey. I saw in their website that any candidate applying for D.O should take physics, chem, biology, english, math. With my credentials, would I still need to take the pre-reqs or will it be waived.
Any suggestions will be very highly appreciated. Kindly post your comments

Well I will contact the school to make sure before spending money taking classes you really dont need to take.

You would most likely have more success with this question on the DO forums. There is as least 1 other PT to DO that frequents these forums so he may be able to answer you.

My guess would be that you would have to take them. Though it could vary from school to school, especially depending on other variables such as age, time in healthcare field, performance in the masters/doctorate, ect.

I'm a previous PT who went to UMDNJ-SOM and is now in residency for PM&R. You will have to take all the pre-requisites regardless of what DO/MD school you apply to and your prior coursework although helpful, will not allow you to waive anything. Best of luck!

hi docjay
thanks for the reply. Just a quick question, can i take the pre-requisites online. Is it something that is allowed by UMDJ-SOM. Kindly confirm by return

I wonder if you would have to take certain prereqs such as physics and chem after working as a PT. From what I understand there is a certain time limit in which prereqs start expiring. I think it is five to ten years. That would be silly to ask a PT to go back and take anatomy undergrad prereqs.

unfortunately I can't answer these specifics, get in touch with the school directly and they will definitely help you out.

Online courses will not be acceptable to almost any school. I have been a PT for 12 years and I have a Doctorate in Science. I have had to go back and take even General Biology. In all these courses you are required to have labs and that is not possible with online courses.

I forgot to mention that I am applying to medical school myself. I've been in this process for almost two years.
