PTCAS just released the applicant data for last application cycle. It might not be of much use to most people, but some of the trends are interesting. One of the tables shows how many applications were submitted by person. If I'm reading this correctly someone submitted 91 application and still didn't get accepted. Ouch!

Yes, you are reading that correctly.

Right below that number is one that is probably more relevant.

17576 total applicants through PTCAS
9368 PTCAS applicants received no offer from a PTCAS school. They could still have received an offer from a school that does not use PTCAS.
So 8208 applicants received a PTCAS offer = 46.7%

Accepted PTCAS Applicant numbers/PTCAS Applicant numbers
Women 5035/10288 = 48.9%
Men 3147/7177 = 43.8%
Declined to say 32/122 = 26.2%
Total 8214/17576 = 46.7%

This goes to show that the field is becoming more and more competitive. I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that someone applied to 91 schools. PTCAS charges $140 for the first school and $40 for each additional school. That comes out $3740. Factor in almost $200 for the GRE and they've dropped almost 4 grand before they even stepped foot on campus. I hope this person had a Daddy Warbucks footing the bill, rather than having some poor college kid max out a credit card only to find out they didn't even get accepted.

I don't know if all of that data ultimately comforts or tortures me. Maybe some of both. Thanks for sharing, either way! It's an interesting read.

Interesting going through and finding my undergraduate institution's stats. Good info for sure

yeah and sending GRE scores are $27 a piece. Account for the 4 free ones and that's about another $2500. This applicant spent well over $7000 when factoring in supplemental fees as well. Yikes! But hey, I'll just mind my own business...

I didn't even think about that part. That's a lot of cheddar. That's a semester's worth of tuition at some schools. I wonder how many non-PTCAS schools they applied to. To each their own I guess.
