PTCAS e- submission

Hi everyone

I was wondering if I can still update reference section of my application after I e-submit it. The thing is one of the school I'm applying requires a reference letter from an upper level bio instructor. One professor I asked for a reference ''cordially'' declined about one month after I asked for it. And reason for that was that he receives about 100 requests every semester for that class had really low instructor/student ratio and said he would only write one if I had T.A.ed that class(said he doesn't want to do it as a full time job 🙁. So I'm going to wait till the end of this semester and get one from my current instructor for upper bio class.
So the question is,
I have to submit the ptcas app. soon for some schools have a deadline of Dec.1.
This particular school that wants a reference from an upper level bio class has a deadline of March 1. 2011.
If I update the reference section after ptcas sends out apps. to all schools, would ptcas consider this as an update for one specific programs and re-send it or can I ask them to hold sending the app. to this particular school until I update the reference section?

No, you can't ask them to hold your application - they definitely can't keep track of when every student applying wants their application sent to each school.
When you e-submit you are giving them permission to send your application to every school you listed and paid for.

What you can do is just not add/pay for the school that wants the extra reference until later, when you add the reference.

Also, any updates will be sent to all of your schools.

Well, I already had all 4 of my references picked out before I e-submitted, and then I was just waiting for that one stupid PT to get his rear in gear and send it in.

What I think you could do is, if you know the professor you are asking, put in the information and then I think even if you do electronic you can choose when you want it sent. You could do paper to be sure. I had actually added the one PT I wanted a reference from after my first day of my experience (hadn't even asked him if he'd write a letter) and chose paper. Then, when my experience was done, I printed off the paperwork for him to fill out.

I actually had gotten an email from Pitt saying, we received your app but need another PT reference, please have this mailed directly to us by such-and-such a date. It was at that time that the PT had JUST submitted it, so I wrote back and said, hey PTCAS said they just got it, so you should be receiving a revised app from me soon, but if that's not quick enough I can directly send a letter.

PTCAS apparently doesn't check to see WHO (or is it whom?) the references are from, PT, professor, etc... They send them all whether that school requires it or not.

So, basically I can submit the app and take time to get either tje reference or hr verification
until the schools contact you for that additional documents needed, right?
Markelmarcel. Was your reference from the last PT submitted after Pitt's deadline?
I have one school whose deadline to e submit is Dec.1 but think I woul be a couple of hrs short for the specialized observation hrs requirement.
Someone says I can add,pay that particular program after I submit the app?
I'm kinda in rush cause PTCAS wouldn't even evaluate my transcripts until I make paymnt.
 
I don't fully understand what you are asking but -

As far as hours go, look on the school's PTCAS page under observation hours - the 4th row says "Deadline for completion of all PT hours" If that date is also December 1st, then your hours are going to have to be done by then anyways

What school are you talking about?

You can submit now, your application will be verified as long as your transcripts are at PTCAS, but, your references have to be in by the Dec 1 deadline and your observation hours have to be completed by whatever date it stated on the school's page (as described above)

You could contact the school and ask them if references can be submitted after december 1st, as long as your PTCAS is submitted by then, but essentially, everything is to be completed by the deadline

Also, what markelmarcel said about electronic references is wrong. If you are doing the electronic version, don't add the person's information until you are ready for it to be sent - because it automatically sends the reference email to the person when you hit save
Observation hours are different - you can pick when you want them to be sent for verifcation (because not everyone gets them verified)

Finally - if you haven't, READ the instructions on PTCAS - it has information about everything you are asking. Here's exactly what it says about references:
"Reference Deadlines

Arrange for PTCAS to RECEIVE all of your references by the application deadline date set by your designated PT programs. PT programs may not consider applicants who submit late materials. PTCAS does NOT enforce reference deadlines and will forward the references to your designated PT programs even if they arrive late"

Thanks for the help people. pesronally, I am thinking this app thing is crazier than GRE, etc.. haha
