Hello everyone. I am a terrified soul like I'm sure many of you are and if you aren't..Well I wish I was more like you! I have a confidence issue due to my GPA. My cumulative GPA on my transcript is a 3.63. That really isn't the problem. The problem... chemistry literally sucked out my soul in undergrad I had to retake it twice.. failed 1 failed 2 got an A the next time I took it. This is the only class i have had to retake that I have failed. I retook some other classes that I got a C (2) in just so I get those nasty things of my GPA. What terrifies me the most is the PTCAS GPA they calculate because they say they take into account all retakes and since my chem class was a 5 credit hour course so you can see how this would seriously negatively effect my Cum GPA and especially my prereq. GPA

So my question to you guys is...does anyone know if schools really base most decisions on PTCAS gpa's or on your actual school official transcript. I am just so stressed out over it.

I don't know if it helps either but I had some significant health issues (I am not trying to make excuses but that is the truth) the 2 consecutive semesters I did horrible in chem and straight b's in my other classes which is out of character for me. and I plan to put it on my PTCAS app.

I am sorry that was kind of a long post and redundant... Please if anyone could help that would be splendid.

Thanks,

The distraught one 😱

I think most schools do use the PTCAS GPAS as it includes every university you've attended and also PTCAS standardizes the scale for them so the PTCAS GPA is actually the only GPA they can use to compare student A to student B and get an accurate comparison.
Definitely put that you were ill on the background/history section.
Otherwise, it kind of just depends on what your PTCAS GPA is with all of the retakes.. is it below a 3.0? If so, it will have a bigger negative impact than if it's just something between a 3.0 and a 3.6.
If it's really bad, you can look into/target some schools that only take the "best" grade for each retake and not all of the grades. They are out there. They pull the best grade from info ptcas sends them and recalculates a new prereq gpa for you based on that. you'd just have to read a lot of university web pages to find which do that.

Hi I think it is going to be around a 2.9. it sucks because if my school didn't weigh chemistry as 5 hour credit and the normal 4 it would be this low. it still would effect it no doubt but maybe not to a 2.9 status! I have been trying to find some schools who don't just look at the PTCAS Gpa...and am having quite the hard time! but thank you for the response I guess it puts things more into perspective for me and I guess I shouldn't expect to get in to many places. Thanks again 🙁
