Hi,
I am a newbie in this area so forgive me if i write something stupid here.
I am definitely taking the pharmacy tech exam in NOV. I finished studying 35% for the exam approx. I am worried about the drug names classification and uses. Can u tell me how you studied those drugs for the exams (i mean flash cards etc). and what material did u use? how much did u studied? Did u have had any previous experience as a technician and how much that helped u for the exam? i am using Noah reifman's book. i am cool with the math part i think it's way easier than the pcat. Also the fedral laws do they ask in depth law questions? and are there a lot of question on that part? Please explain anything which u think is imp or helpful to improve the score on the test. i will work hard, day and night, if i have to.
Any suggestions/advice are welcome. thanks.

Hey, honestly i've never taken the PTCB exam, or even worked as a pharm. tech for that matter. But I can tell you that you probably will not be asked 'in depth law questions', so you can probably relax and don't stress yourself over it.

I admire the work ethic though 👍

It will ask you about CS laws, how long you need to keep records, etc.

You won't be asked anything like what therapeutic class does Sildenafil (Viagra) belong to... That's something for Pharm.D. students...they might ask where you might find Viagra in a pharmacy such as on the shelf, fridge, freezer etc. Things such as therapeutic class are outside the scope of practice for Pharmacy Technicians...it would definatley be beneficial for you to know but they will not ask something of that sort unless it is clearly an antibiotic etc. In case you were wondering Sildenafil is a Phosphodiesterace Inhibitor...

Actually they do ask questions about drug class. But along the lines of which of these are in the same class, or which is for high blood pressure.

If you haven't been employed by anyone listed, then indicate that. 😛 There is usually a choice for "Other" or "Not applicable".

Agreed.

There were several general questions about drug class. I would advise knowing about three in each class, and a sentence or two's worth of what each class does. This should be more than sufficient to help you out on the test.

don't stress. considering that you have already studied 35% in early sep when your exam is in nov, you are doing well. there's a group on yahoo to help people to prepare for the ptcb exam. it's got flash cards, top drug names, laws, sample questions etc. you might find that helpful.

i took the ptcb exam in july and didn't really have time to study (i was/am working FT and was attending summer classes). i studied 20% of my prep book and read/skimped through the rest. i thought i was gonna fail but i passed somehow... ...

this is not to say the exam is easy or anything. it's always better to be prepared.

also, i wouldn't worry about obtaining a high score on the ptce. i don't think any employer will ask for that. ptce is not pcat.
