Me and my boyfriend are going to take the test in December. I'm planning to get one of these books...Which one do you recommend? I really hope I would pass it the first time >.<;

http://www.amazon.com/Pocket-Guide-Pharmacy-Technicians-Jahangir/dp/1418032212/ref=pd_sim_b_34

http://www.amazon.com/Pharmacy-Tech...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1206635490&sr=1-1

or the one from techlectures.com

I can't afford the Mosby book, it's too expensive, it's like 76 bucks 😵;;

If you have any pharmacy experience at all, don't even bother buying a book. Just mayyybe look over some things online before the test. I studied the night before for an hour and passed easily. It's mainly common sense and math question and if you're going into pharmacy, they should be easayyy.

I just took it August 30th so if you have any questions let me know.

I don't have a pharmacy experience yet, I have interview at pharmacy hospital tomorrow, I hope I get the job...

But thank you, I'll message you if I have a question :]~

I used the 2nd book and passed the test the first time I took it. I have no experience as a pharm tech or working in a pharmacy.

I think you're looking at the wrong Mosby book. The one you were looking at is probably the textbook and is far more in-depth than you would need to know for the test. This is the one I used: http://www.amazon.com/Mosbys-Review-PTCB-Certification-Examination/dp/0323033679

It covers everything you will need to know for the test and excludes superfluous information, allowing you to make the most out of your study time. I studied off of it for 2 weeks (2-3 hours per day) and got an 805/900 with no pharmacy experience. I admit it has some issues in organization and some mistakes in the practice tests written in the book. However, the computerized versions on the included CD are corrected and are very similar in format to the actual exam.

I just got a position at Target Pharmacy working as a Pharm clerk and am taking the PTCE in Nov. I was wondering what portion of the study material I should focus most on. Right now, I'm still trying to memorize conversion units and unit analysis (the calculations) and laws. There are just so much drug names to learn though. Should I try to memorize them all?????

Has anyone used Mosby's Pharmacy Technician Principles and Practice Second Edition?

Also, is there one single book that anyone feels covers all of the necessary material for someone with absolutely no pharmacy experience or prior knowledge?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Marge

Have you already searched your local library? My city library had a mosby and another entire lecture series plus exam workbook.

Thanks for the information! Those cards are very helpful! I didn't know there was a webiste where you could make electronic flash cards.

I got this Mosby's book at the library. My library has a few others that I plan on checking out once I finish with this one, but I wondered if there were any specific texts to study.

I haven't been able to find whether or not the PTCB endorses any particular text.

Is there anything else that I should be studying? I have plenty of time because I am not taking the exam until end of may/early june when I am out of school.

Thanks!

hmmm...i'd say you can study while in school and take it before then...i dont think you need months to study for it...

But you do have to be 18, don't you?

My guidance counselor told me that you had to be 18 in order to take the test and that she wouldn't be able to get any type of waiver. Do you know of any?

I took the test recently and used this book. Focus on the math.

I used the book by Noah Reifman

http://www.amazon.com/Certification...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222335660&sr=8-2

but I didn't pay nearly as much as it's selling for from those third party sellers. I think I bought if off of Overstock for $30.. look around online and you can probably find a better price.

I had some pharmacy experience (worked about 6 months as a CVS clerk before taking the test) so some things were obvious. But I thought this book was GREAT at preparing you.. especially because a lot of the questions from the book are actually on the test!
