hey guys,

I will be applying to dental schools next year, and I would like to know which public schools take applicants form out of state. I am from CA, and I would like to apply to schools in other states as well. I would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Apparently not Florida! As I just asked many of our fellow SDN forum-mates. But hopefully others...I REALLY would like to avoid a private school at all costs. 😛 (no pun intended)

Let's see . . .

Ohio State
Iowa State
North Carolina
Virginia Commonwealth
UNLV
Kentucky
Louisville
Indiana
UCONN
San Antonio
UCLA
USC
UCSF
Maryland
Alabama
Washington
Orgeon

That's just off the top of my head because I looked at applying to each of those schools. I'm sure there is more that others will add.

Michigan accepts out of state, but you won't be able to establish yourself as a resident for the 4 years.

USC is private and the tuition is very high. You can submit an application to any public school, the fact of the matter is how much consideration will they give it. Schools such as OHSU, Washington, Colorado, those in Texas, and so on are xenophobic towards out-of-staters. Sure, a couple of students from elsewhere get in, but they usually have nose-bleed high stats and sometimes some connection to the dental school (parents alumni, family nearby, etc.) which helps them a bit. If you would like a good list of the state schools out there, their out-of-state acceptance rates, tuition costs, and more, then go to Borders or Barnes and Noble and look at Barron's Guide to Medical and Dental Schools. Some schools, such as Maryland, take a lot of out-of-state students, while UF doesn't. This might help you gather your list of schools to apply to.
