Any thoughts on getting your debt forgiven through the 10-year public service loan forgiveness plan? Seems like a good idea for someone in high debt but what sort of jobs would be eligible? Working in a hospital as a dentist? Working at a dental school? Anyone know people doing this plan? I also heard some residencies would apply.

It is very helpful and you also get the opportunity to work with very diverse populations. I have classmates who participated in Loan Repayment programs. I also received loan repayment through the state of NC for a number of years. There are federal and states options. Please visit the National Health Service Corps at http://nhsc.hrsa.gov. I do recommend these opportunities to serve, give back and in turn be rewarded in so many ways. It is also a wonderful feeling when all of your loans are paid down or paid off.

Indian health service, and there are nonprofit programs; Ossining Open Door, Ryan Nena, Bridgeport Community Health Center, there is also one in New Haven. Some of the Aspen dental locations also qualify and there is the public health website. These programs offer money once you completed your 3 month probationary period with the company, and then it is for 2-3 years depending on the contract. Hospital dentistry does not always qualify. However, sometimes the military branches have bonuses to sign on. They are not too bad either... Dental schools do not qualify
